Retaining Walls and New Garage/ Games Room
Process 1
The project involved removing existing retaining walls and cutting out rock landforms to create space for a new architectural double garage and parking bays. Whilst doing this it was decided to reconfigure the site landscaping and decking to the front of the house.
Process 2
New retaining walls to form driveway was implemented first. Due to difficult soil conditions rock and soft soils, the landscaping and plans had to be changed to allow for a large deck, concrete ground beams, and galvanized steel beams. Only half loads of concrete were able to be used due to access issues.
Process 3
Large concrete block retaining walls (up to 3m high) were built with considerable reinforcing steelwork up to 20mm high tensile steel. The garage was built first with spruce trusses and bleached plywood linings, then a connecting off-camber vestibule – of spruce and exposed plywood, was built.
Large galvanized steel beam and timber to form deck subframe and a bamboo deck with glass handrails and hardware installed.
Exposed aggregate drive and gabian baskets to complete.
